Vivian Phelps, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at her home in Montevideo at the age of 83. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Gwen Bohlke officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 4 - 6 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Vivian Eldora (Kaupang) Phelps was born on October 2, 1925 in Camp Release Township of Lac qui Parle Co., MN to Eddie and Christine (Sundt) Kaupang. She grew up in Montevideo, attended Montevideo schools and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1943. She was united in marriage to Floyd Dye and later to Raymond Phelps. Most of her life was lived in Montevideo with the exception of about 10 years in Roseville, CA. She worked as a waitress at a variety of locations in Montevideo and owned and operated Viv's Place Restaurant in Montevideo for a number of years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Montevideo and had been a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She liked to listen to music, sing, dance, play cards, do crossword puzzles and especially liked to spend time with her family and friends. Vivian is survived by her loving companion of 33 years, Edwin "Pete" Johnson of Montevideo; three children: Terry Dye and his wife Billie of Citrus Heights, CA; Wayne Dye of Montevideo and Kathy Gordon and her husband Bill of Golden Valley, MN; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond in 1975; her ex-husband Floyd in 1990; a son, Eddie Dye in 1992; a daughter, Christine LaVoie in 1991, an infant son Robert Eddie Dye in 1947, a granddaughter, Cheryl Millington in 2007; three brothers: Eddie, Gifford and Oris Kaupang and by two sisters: Thelma Petrick and Edna Moudry.
