Vivian Sundin, of Dawson, died Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson, MN at the age of 91.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at 11:00AM at Providence Valley Lutheran Church in rural Dawson, MN. Pastor Kendall Stelter will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-7PM at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home with prayer service at 7:00PM.
Vivian Lorraine (Anderson) Sundin was born to Henry and Bertha (Soblom) Anderson on October 24, 1922, in Hamline Township of Lac qui Parle County, MN. She was baptized by Rev. Paulson in May, 1923 and confirmed by Pastor Nickalson in April, 1936 at the Dawson Covenant Church.
At the age of two years, her mother died in childbirth during the birth of a son, who also died shortly after birth. Vivian was cared for by various relatives for a year and then was placed in the home of the Richard Christianson’s, where she stayed for about five years. In 1929, her father built a small home on his farm in Providence Township and Vivian returned to make her home and kept house for him. Vivian attended country school at District 38 and the Dawson Public School where she graduated in 1941. On October 4, 1947, she was united in marriage to Donald Sundin at Providence Valley Lutheran Church. To this union one daughter, Sylvia Jean, was born.
Vivian was very active in community affairs and Providence Valley Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent for 30 years, as well as being active in WELCA, Bible study groups, and the Church Council. For 10 years Vivian wrote a homey column for the Dawson Sentinel called “Hi Neighbors,” where she tried to tell the story of farm life as she lived it. She loved her home and was the happiest in her flower gardens and keeping up with reading the daily news and watching Public Television.
She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia; five nieces; one nephew; several cousins; and a host of loving friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald, on March 9, 1992; her parents, Henry and Bertha Anderson; her stepmother, Hazel Anderson and an infant brother.
