Walter Grau, 84, of Montevideo, MN and formerly of Waterloo, IA died August 21, 2000 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 25, 2000 at 1:30 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Warren Broughton will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.

Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.  The family will be present from 6-8:00 P.M. and there will be a prayer service at 7:30 P.M.

Walter Harold Grau was born March 27, 1916 at Keystone, IA the son of Henry and Dora (Doose) Grau.  He grew up in Montevideo, MN and in ND and moved at the age of 13 to Vinton, IA after his father’s death.  He was united in marriage with Ida Wilson April 29, 1940 at Waterloo, IA.  He served in the US Army during WW II in the CBI Theater.  Walter worked at John Deere in Waterloo, IA for 35 years and then as a tour guide at the John Deere plant for 20 years.  He was a member of the John Deere Supervisors Club, the American Legion, and Bethel Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, IA where he served as Deacon, Elder, Trustee, and substitute Sunday School Teacher.  Walter enjoyed working on cars, hunting ducks, birdwatching, and sports.  He loved his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Walter was a loving husband and father and a friend to everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, Ida; one son Lee and his wife Carol of Montevideo, MN; two grandchildren: Julie (Jim) Nolte and Jon Grau; five great-grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Amanda, Andrea, and Dylan; one brother, George (Ruth) Grau of Walhalla, ND; and one sister, Clara Wutzke of Vinton, IA.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one grandson, Jeff Grau; two brothers: Henry and William Grau; and one sister, Alvina Myer.
