Walter Lehmann

June 18, 1924 — March 28, 2013

Walter Lehmann died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 88.

Funeral services was Monday, April 1, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Kendall Stelter officiating; scripture lessons were  Psalm 98, Revelation 21:1-7 and John 3:16-17, 6:35-40' organist, Deb Lewis accompanied the singing of “Borning Cry”; for special music, the Chord Ayres sang “I’ll Walk With God” and “Precious Lord”; and a trumpet solo of “Amazing Grace” was performed; the casketbearers were  Gerald Sievers, Mark Kopitzke, Mike Kopitzke, Jeff Liebl, Bryon Lundy and Dick Wold.   Burial was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Tyro Township, rural Clarkfield.

Visitation was Sunday from 5-7:00 pm at Hanson & Dahl and at the church for one hour before services on Monday.

Walter Raymond John Lehmann was born June 18, 1924 in Maxwell Township, Lac qui Parle County, MN the son of Reinhold and Emma (Sievers) Lehmann.  He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Tyro Township.  Walter graduated from Boyd Senior High in 1941.  He was a machinist in a steel mill in IL and also worked in CA building aircraft during WW II.  He was united in marriage with Sylvia Kopitzke June 3, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Omro Twp.  They made their home in the Boyd area where he farmed.  They moved into Dawson in 1983 and he worked at AMPI for several years and also cleaned at the firehall in Dawson.  He played trumpet in in the Toby Haug Band.  Walter enjoyed woodworking and music.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; three sons: Dean (Pam) Lehmann of Boyd, Jim Lehmann of Dawson, and Randy Lehmann of Willmar; six grandchildren: Alicia, Christiana, Jake, Chantel, Shawn, and Andrew; three great-grandchildren: Carmen, Thea, and Skylar; and two sisters: Hildegard Hanson of Aberdeen, SD and Florence Rogers of The Villages, FL.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Gary; a brother, Rueben Lehmann; and a sister, Lucille Peterson.
