Walter Moe, of Montevideo, died on Monday, January 20, 1997 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 83.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 23, 1997 at 1:30 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Watson, MN with Rev. Robert Rendahl officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6 - 8 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo as well as for one hour prior to services at the church.
Walter William Moe was born on January 28, 1913 in Chippewa Co., MN to Anton and Sophie (Christopherson) Moe. He was baptized and confirmed at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, MN and graduated from Milan High School in 1930. He also attended St. Paul Vocational School. He was united in marriage to Hazel Strid on November 8, 1936 at her parents' home near Milan, MN. They farmed north of Milan until 1942, when they purchased and moved to a farm north of Montevideo. They resided there until moving into Montevideo in 1951. He founded Montevideo Manufacturing and Metal Co. in 1947 and there produced many inventions, which he actively manufactured and marketed for 38 years before retiring in 1985. His inventions and patents covered a wide range of interests and were designed to help improve the quality of life in the farm environment. He began playing his baritone horn in 1931 in the Milan Community Band and participated in the Watson, Appleton, and Montevideo Community Bands for many years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Watson, MN.
Walt is survived by his wife - Hazel; a daughter - Arlene(Maurice) Freeman of Aitkin,MN; a son - Gary (Teleah) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren - Andrea(Robert) Welter of Maplewood,MN; Amy(Jim) Krohn of Oakdale,MN; and Gary and Joshua of Charlotte, NC; a step-grandchild - William Melvin of Raleigh, NC; great grandchildren - Jennica and Drew Welter; and sisters - Georgia Gilhoi of Luck,WI and Frances Hamlin of Greenbank,WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by brothers - Alfred, Hjalmer, Ludvig, and Oscar Moe; and by sisters - Signe Winges; Selma Hagen and Alvina Kuhnley.
