Warren Sletten, of Montevideo, died on Saturday September 21, 1996 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 73.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday September 25, 1996 at 1:00 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Rev. Douglas Olson and Rev. Warren Broughton officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with a service of Masonic Rites at 8:00 PM
Warren Arthur Sletten was born on August 29, 1922 in Wegdahl, MN to Ole and Olga (Olvang) Sletten. He grew up in the Wegdahl area, attended rural schools and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1939. He was united in marriage to Ida Marie Austin on October 23, 1942 in Monroe, LA. Warren attended Windom College for one year before entering the US Army. He attended the Army Command & Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, KS and served in the Army Air Corps during WW II and the Army during Korea and thereafter. He retired from the Army in 1978 with the rank of Colonel. Following retirement, they lived in Montevideo and spent winters in McAllen, TX until about five years ago when they moved to Charles Town, WV. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, National Rifle Association, and Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher, a chairman of a church board and a member of the men's club.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Marie; two sons: John Sletten of Lansdale, PA and Richard Sletten of Grand Forks, ND; one daughter, Christine Leigh of Charles Town, WV; 11 grandchildren; his mother, Olga Sletten of Coon Rapids, MN; one brother, Norris Sletten of Cottonwood, MN; and one sister, Mary-Ann Westling of Coon Rapids, MN.
He was preceded in death by his father.
