Warren Wallace, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 91.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, September 5, 2003 at 1:30 PM at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Paul Woolverton officiating. Interment will be in the Leenthrop Memorial Cemetery near Maynard, MN.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Warren L. Wallace was born at Larabee, Iowa, on December 4, 1911 to Guy and Margaret (Warren) Wallace. The family moved to a farm by Maynard, MN, in 1912, where they remained for 15 years. In 1927 they moved to a farm NW of Montevideo. Warren graduated from Maynard High School in 1928 and was Valedictorian of his class. He joined a fossil hunting team and traveled across the Badlands and Wyoming and brought back stories of his experiences and fossil specimens. He loved to study geology and fossils often going to gravel pits and searching for agates which he polished in his rock tumbler. He bought a truck and hauled flax straw for Archer Daniels Co. for several years. He was united in marriage to Vera Tice of Montevideo and moved to Kerkhoven, MN, where he did gardening. Following Vera’s death in 1981, he returned to Montevideo. In 1982 he was united in marriage to Ethel Doring of Montevideo and she preceded him in death in 1993. He kept busy going to the library and the community center, playing pool and chess and reading scientific and historical books.
He is survived by a sister, Joyce Anderson of Montevideo; two brothers: Roger (Gudrun) Wallace and Archie Wallace, both of Montevideo; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives: Vera and Ethel; two sisters: Edith Blakesley: and Eleanor Tostenson; one niece, Nancy Tostenson; and one nephew, Donald Wallace.
