Warren Winkelman, of Montevideo and formerly of Milan, died on Friday, April 21, 2006 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 84.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Tom Opoien officiating. Interment will be in the Kviteseid Lutheran Milan Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening, with the family from 6 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 7 PM, all at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Warren Fred Winkelman was born on May 9, 1921 in Holloway, MN to Fred and Bertha (Munsterman) Winkelman. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway, MN and attended rural schools and school in Holloway. On December 13, 1941 he was united in marriage to Norma Streed on her family farm. They farmed in rural Milan until moving into Milan in the early 1970's. He retired from farming in the late 1970's. They enjoyed a cabin on Lake Minnewaska for over 50 years and spent nearly 25 years wintering in Arizona. They moved to Montevideo in 2005 and he became a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center about a month ago before just moving to the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. He was a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing, farming and gardening, golfing, biking, animals and especially his family.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; three children: Dean Winkelman and his wife Sue of Cedar, MN, Dianne Hagenstad and her husband Larry of Chisago City, MN, Carol Gilbertson and her husband Lynn of St. Michael, MN; seven grandchildren: Cheryl, Michelle, Matthew, Wade, Sara, Jon and Luke; four great-grandchildren: Amanda, Aaron, Valen and Catherine; a sister, Laverne Bahl of Appleton, MN; two sisters-in-law: Olivia Winkelman of Willmar, MN and Lorraine Winkelman of Starbuck, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Cathy Hagenstad; three sisters: Alma Anderson, Mamie Hoffman and Melba Weiss; and two brothers: Henry and Vernon Winkelman.
