Wayne Stanley Nelson

April 23, 1943 — February 7, 1999

Wayne Stanley Nelson was born April 23, 1943, in Dawson, to Reynold and Stella (Huseby) Nelson.  He was baptized on June 13, 1943, and confirmed on October 26, 1958, at the Riverside Lutheran Church in Dawson.  He attended school in the Dawson area graduating from the Dawson High School in 1961.
He enlisted in the Army in 1962, served as an M.P. in Japan, and was honorably discharged on May 28, 1965.
After working in Minneapolis, he came back to Dawson in 1974, and lived on the family farm.  He farmed for several years and later worked for the Postal Service in Madison, MN.
He was very dedicated and active in the American Legion.  He had been awarded a Lifetime membership, was a member of the 40 & 8 Legion group, and enjoyed the fellowship of the groups.
Wayne died suddenly on Sunday, February 7, 1999, at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital at the age of 55.
He is survived by his sister, Diane (Robert) Wollum of Elk River; 3 nieces: Julie Jensen, Lori (Paul) Heupenbecker, and Sara Wollum; 2 aunts: Bernice Steenson and Effie Glomstad; several cousins, other family, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and step-father, Manford Kleven.
