Big Bend

Wayne Norby, formerly of the Big Bend area, died in Denver CO on Wednesday, July 5, 2000 at the age of 68.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at 1:30 PM at the Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. Corey Fuhrman officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6 - 8 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Wayne P. Norby was born on May 22, 1932 in Big Bend Township of Chippewa County, MN to Eddie and Ruby (Molden) Norby.  He was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church and graduated from Appleton High School in 1950.  He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.  On June 25, 1955 he was united in marriage to Ione Knutson in Swift County, MN.  After living in Rapid City, SD for a short time, they moved to the Denver, CO area, where he has resided since.  He worked as a foreman specializing in commercial buildings and power plants across the west for over 40 years before retiring. He was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Denver, CO and was a member of the Sheetmetal Workers Union Local #9.  In retirement he was an active volunteer at his church and the Skinner Middle School Library.  He was a former member of the Montevideo American Legion and Civil Defense.  He enjoyed woodworking, construction, mechanics, gardening, fishing, travel, dominoes, puzzles and playing with his grandchildren.  He was a generous man and gave unceasingly of himself to all.

He is survived by his wife, Ione of Denver, CO; one daughter, Kay (Charles) Fial of Lafayette, CO; two sons: David (Kaellyn) Norby of Birmingham, AL and Douglas (Laura) Norby of Richmond, VA; four grandchildren: Berkeley and Taylor Fial and Steven and Christopher Norby; three sisters: Ruth Simonson and Janice (Ken) Olsen of Montevideo and Blanche (Phil) Jordahl, his twin sister, of Dawson, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roger Norby; one sister, Winnifred Amundson and two sisters: Elna and Janet in infancy.

Memorials are preferred to the Chromosome 9 P- network to benefit his grandson’s chromosome research and support.
