Wendell Froland, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 75. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee and Rev. Tim Wheatley officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening, with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 6:45 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Wendell Duane Froland was born on August 4, 1933 in Clarkfield, MN to Olaf and Blanche (Christensen) Froland. He was baptized and confirmed at Clarkfield Lutheran Church and graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1951. On October 25, 1952, he was united in marriage to Rachel Larson at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. They lived in Clarkfield until moving to Montevideo in 1957. He worked at French Glass in Montevideo for fifty years, having flunked retirement. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Montevideo Fire Department for 24 years, serving many years as treasurer, was a member of the Lion's Club and served a term as it's President, was a member of the Minnesota Valley Antique Farm Power and Machinery Association, and was a campground host at Itasca State Park for ten years. He was very proud of having donated 10 � gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. He enjoyed camping, collecting toy tractors and trucks, traveling, woodworking, volunteering at Heritage Hill, making the world's best peanut brittle and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Rachel; four children: Carolyn (and Nick) Wolff of Cyrus, MN; Cheryl Froland (and De Jensen) of Bloomington, MN; Cathy (and Jim) Wilson of New London, MN; and Chris (and Lee) Johnson of Montevideo; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers: Archie Froland of Clarkfield, MN ; Ronald Froland of Granite Falls, MN and Darrel Froland of Littleton, CO; two sisters: Donna Olson of Granite Falls, MN and Janice Nelson of Luverne, MN; as well as by many nieces and nephews, He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Madison Wolff; and by a sister, Nola Edwards.
