Wesley was born in Montevideo on May 5, 1938 to Henry and Mamie (Miller) Schrapp. He was the youngest of four children. Wes was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. He graduated from Montevideo High School. Following high school, he worked as a trucker and mechanic along with various other jobs. He eventually joined NSP, during which time he earned his boiler's license and worked as the boiler operation for the power plant in Granite Falls. He was united in marriage to Eleanor Lehmann on June 30, 1962 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. They had one son, Nicholas. Wes also served in the Army National Guard for a number of years. Wes retired from NSP as a meter reader after 28 years.
Wes was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church all his life. He volunteered in various ways for the church, one of which was packing food boxes for families at holiday time. Wes was very talented in metal working, welding, and mechanics. His mottos were “you might as well try” and “if you're going to do it, do it right”. Along with family and friends Wes enjoyed motorcycle and snowmobile trips many times throughout the years. Family described Wes as quite adventurous in his younger years. Most of all he was proud father and grandfather.
Wes is survived by his son, Nicholas (Sarah), Grand Rapids, MN; grandsons: Tucker (Katie), Alexandria, MN, Cooper, Grand Rapids, MN; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor in 2019; siblings: Shirley (Bennie) Johnson, Gloria (Gordy) Bright and Lyle (JoAnn) Schrapp.
May his memory be blessed.
