William L. Johnson, of Maynard, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 85.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23, 2003 at 1:30 P.M. at Maynard Lutheran Church with Rev. Mary Hovland officiating. Interment will be in the Maynard Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday afternoon and evening, with the family from 6 - 7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
William LeRoy Johnson was born on January 6, 1918 in Spencer, IA to William P. and Edna (Peterson) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Maynard Lutheran Church. On May 15, 1948, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Van Heel in Webster, SD. He farmed, worked at the Cargill Elevator in Gluek, MN, worked for Fransen Construction, managed the Maynard Liquor Store, worked at Fritz Trucking and drove the handicapped van for the MACCRAY School District before retiring. He was a member of Maynard Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife Mary; four daughters: Mary Dahna Heyd and her husband Wayne of Maynard, MN, Brenda Ruter and her husband Vern of Princeton, MN, Judy Lee and her husband Bradley of Maynard, MN, and Patty Johnson of Maynard, MN; one son, William J. Johnson and his wife Lori of Hutchinson, MN; four grandchildren: Donnie and Rachell Mahlum and William H. and Mitchell Johnson; three step-grandchildren: Bobby Ruter, Michael Ruter and Cassie Lee; and one step-great-grandson, Tyler Ruter; one brother, Donald of Colorado; two sisters: Phyllis Levitz of Maynard and Delores Hill and her husband Ken of Montevideo; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert C. Johnson; and three sisters: Arlene Fransen, LaVon Bang and Thelma Johnson.
