William A. Lindquist

January 3, 1905 — November 28, 1999

William A. Lindquist was born on January 3, 1905, in Cerro Gordo Township, to John and Anna (Olson) Lindquist.  He was baptized at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church by Rev. Ultheim and confirmed at Providence Valley Lutheran Church by Rev. Samuelson on September 20, 1920.
Bill farmed until 1962, when he retired from farming and with his two brothers, moved into Dawson.  He still helped area farmers and for a time, worked in a lumber yard.
He was a member of the Lac Qui Parle County Horticultural Society and in 1991, received their Eldred Buer Memorial Award.  He served on the church board for six years and sang for over 40 years in the Providence Valley Lutheran Choir.  He was caretaker of the Providence cemetery with his brother, Wilhelm.  He also served as an usher at the Providence Valley Church and later at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson.  His pride and joy was leading the Lindquist Group in playing music at nursing homes and programs, where he played the accordian and harmonica.  He also played in the Providence Band.
His hobbies included playing the accordian and harmonica, singing, and gardening, especially growing amaryllis.
On November 27, 1976, he married Carrie Fleming and together, they enjoyed gardening and growing flowers.  After Bill's health began to fail, he moved into the Johnson Memorial Home of Dawson in December of 1995.  Carrie died on June 9, 1997.  Bill remained at the Johnson Memorial Home until until his death on Sunday, November 28, 1999, at the age of 94.
He is survived by 2 step-children: Betty (Wallace) Pippitt of Nampa, ID, and Dorothy Fleming of Spicer, MN; 4 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Grace Lindquist of Dawson, Ruth Wheeler of Rochester, and Gertrude Barber of Pepin, WI; one brother-in-law, Richard (Marian) Jahnke of Pepin, WI; cousins, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carrie; half-brother, Andrew Johnson; twin brother, Wilhelm; and one step-son, James Fleming.
