William "Ted" Abel, 77, of Montevideo, died December 4, 1996 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, 1996 at 1:30 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo. Rev. Robert Ford and Rev. Gary Mikkelson will officiate and interment will be at Florida Church Cemetery, rural Canby, MN.
Visitation will be held Friday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 7-8:00 P.M. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before services.
William Theodore Abel was born February 18, 1919 near Pennsville, OH the son of Daniel and Anna (Henry) Abel. He graduated from Penn Rural High School in 1937. Ted entered the US Army March 27, 1942 and served in the 26th Air Service Squadron in England, Egypt, Sicily, and Italy before being discharged May 19, 1945. He was united in marriage to Hazel Mikkelson on August 5, 1945 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Canby, MN. Ted worked for his father-in-law at the Gamble's Store and later at an Auto Parts store before moving to Prescott, AZ in 1967. He worked as an auto parts manager and also at the VA Hospital in Prescott. They moved to Mountain Home, AR in 1977 and to Montevideo in 1985. Ted entered Luther Haven this fall. He enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel; two daughters: Anna Marie Abel of St. Paul, MN and Judy Dye of Ethelsville, AL; five grandchildren: Michael Johnson, Erik Johnson, Elise and David Mugge, Jena and Don Montgomery, and Matthew Crisfield; one great-granddaughter, Brenna Mugge; one brother, Robert Abel and his wife Gene of Phoenix, AZ; three sisters Merle Daniel and her husband John of Columbus, OH, Lou King of Columbus OH, and Lois Dew of Coshocton, OH; one sister-in-law, Doris Abel of McConnelsville, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sons: James in 1974 and Steven in 1979; three brothers: Emmett, Albert, and Ray; a half-brother - Myron and two brothers-in-law: Ralph King and Myron "Bus" Dew. A son-in-law - Charles Dye died shortly after Ted's death on Wednesday.
