Wilmer "Buck" Jenneke

Wilmer "Buck" Jenneke died on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 93. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 6:45 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Wilmer Deidrich Jenneke was born on January 4, 1915 in Lester Prairie, MN to Louis and Pauline (Kuhlmann) Jenneke. He was baptized on January 31, 1915 and confirmed on May 20, 1928 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, MN and graduated from Lester Prairie High School in 1932. In 1940 he moved to Montevideo as a lineman at Northern States Power. In October of 1941, he entered the US Army, serving in Alaska, the South Pacific and in 1945 was a member of the first occupation troops to land in Nagasaki, Japan after the atomic bomb was dropped. In early 1946, he returned to his job at NSP in Montevideo, working until retiring in 1980. On April 9, 1949 he was united in marriage to Elsie Eichhorst at Our Saviors Lutheran Church Chapel. He was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and serving as a Trustee. He was a past commander of VFW Post #380 and a member of American Legion Post #59 in Montevideo. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending summers at his lake home on Stuart Lake in Clitherall, MN. Following his retirement, he took up the hobby of woodcarving in which he won some ribbons at the county fair. He also enjoyed spending four months in Daytona Beach, FL every winter. He is survived by a daughter, Paula Connelly of Chanhassen, MN; two granddaughters: Heather and Amber Connelly of Chanhassen; a sister, Lucille Maetzold of Mayer, MN; two sisters-in-law: Lois Jenneke of Lester Prairie, MN and Viola Jenneke of Waconia, MN; two brothers-in-law: Art Lanes of Montevideo and Louis Eichhorst of Willmar, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Elsie in 1999; five brothers; and five sisters.
