Gorden Saue, formerly of Montevideo, died on Thursday, January 3, 2002 in Ventura, CA at the age of 78.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 12, 2002 at 1:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with Rev. Warren Broughton officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to services on Saturday.
Gorden P. Saue was born on July 21, 1923 in Montevideo, MN to Peter and Martha (Lynne) Saue. He grew up in Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo High School. He served in the US Army during WWII, serving in Italy, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart and in the Battle of the Bulge. He also participated in the liberation of concentration camps in Germany. On January 14, 1945 he was united in marriage to Lois Ost in Montevideo. Following his discharge, he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in pharmacy. He later served his country as a First Lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War. He began his career as a pharmacist and eventually joined the management team of Super-X Drug Stores, a national chain of drug stores and a subsidiary of Kroger Co. After 20 years with Super-X, he retired in 1979 as Senior Vice-President and Director of Operations. He moved, along with his wife, to Ventura, CA, where he began a successful second career as a real estate agent.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; a son, Dr. Gregory Saue and his wife Lucinda of Spokane, WA; a daughter, Jacqueline Saue Birney, Esq. and her husband William J. of Washington, DC; three grandchildren: Ilse McClary and her husband Steve, Gretchen Saue, and Kevin Birney; a great- granddaughter, Lauren Saue-Fletcher; and two sisters: Ruth Thorsland and her husband Kermit of Milan, MN and Irene Hirschman of Montevideo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul.
