Harlan Gordon Gilsrud

Montevideo

Harlan Gilsrud, 78, of Montevideo, died February 13, 1999 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, February 16, 1999 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo, MN.  Rev. Douglas Olson and Rev. Warren Broughton will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.  There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before services on Tuesday.

Harlan Gordon Gilsrud was born April 1, 1920 at Milan, MN the son of Joseph and Thea (Helgeson)  Gilsrud.  He grew to adulthood near Montevideo, graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1939, and attended Windom College for 2 years.  Harlan served in the US Army during WW II.  He was united in marriage with Lorraine “Lolly” Swenson April 1, 1945 in Montevideo, MN.  They lived in St. Paul, Maynard, and Montevideo.  Harlan worked as a salesman for Sears and Borner Ford for many years and later as the Transit Director for the City of Montevideo for 10 years before retiring in 1985.  He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the American Legion, VFW, and a past-president of the Lions Club.  Harlan enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, refinishing furniture, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, “Lolly”; three children: Joy Jacobsen and her husband Gerald of Crivitz, WI, Kay Quenemoen of Montevideo, MN, and Scott Gilsrud of Redwood Falls, MN; five grandchildren: Tammy and Rick Schmitz, Brandy and Gene Streich, Jessica Mann, Brian Jacobsen, and Randall Jacobsen; three great-grandchildren: Joe Schmitz, Alexis Schmitz, and Gage Wambeke; one sister, LeVon Hamilton of Montevideo, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant daughter, Alane; an infant grandson, Rodney Jacobsen; and two brothers-in-law: Wayne Hamilton and Richard Swenson.
