Marvin Pitt, of Montevideo, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 85.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Interment will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service starting at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Marvin Oscar Pitt was born in Mandt Township on June 30, 1933 to Oscar and Dora (Lovhaug) Pitt. He grew up in the Big Bend and Montevideo area. He was baptized and confirmed at St Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Marvin served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1957. He was united in marriage to Katie Petersen on October 22, 1960 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They had two children together: Michael and Karen. Marvin worked as a route supervisor for G & K Services from 1961 to his retirement in 1996.
Marvin was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. In the early years Marvin was a volunteer EMT for Montevideo and also drove race cars. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards, especially the game Hand & Foot. He loved to share his hobby of fishing with family members and his favorite spot to fish was at Lac qui Parle. He always told his family the walleye’s cheek was the best part of the fish. Marvin would also watch and listen to Minnesota sports teams
Marvin is survived by his daughter, Karen (Chad) Knutson of Waconia, MN; two grandchildren: Jordon and Trenton; sisters-in-law: Marion Mahlum of Sacred Heart, MN and Jeanette Giinthir of Raymond, MN; brother-in-law: Kenneth R. (Sarah) Petersen of Roseland, MN as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katie in 2015 and his son, Michael in 1999.
