Shelby Borstad, of Dawson, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at her home in Dawson at the age of 76.
Memorial services will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at The Refuge Church in Montevideo with Pastor Barry Brace officiating.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Shelby Kay Beattie was born November 11, 1947 in Dawson, MN to Gordon and Muriel (Shaffer) Beattie. She was baptized at Antelope Hills Church of Christ in rural Canby, MN. She attended and graduated from Dawson High School. After high school she attended Mankato Beauty School obtaining her degree in cosmetology. Shelby was united in marriage to Donald Klyberg on February 25, 1967 at Antelope Hills Church of Christ and to this union two children were born. She was united in marriage to David Borstad on April 23, 1984. Shelby owned her beauty salon in Dawson, starting on main street and eventually relocating to an in home salon.
Shelby was a humble and giving person. Always willing to give to someone in need and never expecting anything in return. With her kindness and generosity came 20 plus years of foster care. Her foster children were extremely important to her and she made a major impact on their lives. Many of them stayed in contact with her years after. Shelby enjoyed making crafts and was very talented. She became a certified ceramics instructor and opened a ceramics studio in her home. Later in life, she spent many hours crocheting, and donated the majority of her items to charity.
Shelby is survived by her children, Zahn Klyberg of Appleton, MN and Diana Klyberg of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren, Christian, Aislynn, Logan, Jelisa, Prescott, Griffin and Toby; siblings, Sheldon Beattie, Marsha (Mark) Schutte and Kim (Grace) Beattie; brother-in-law, Gary Nederhoff; and several nieces, nephews extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Borstad; sister, Karen Nederhoff; and sister-in-law, Melody Beattie.
